Community Service: Veteran’s Stand Down Event – Sept 26-27

Hello OCOS Members! Feel like giving back to those in need in your community?

Part of the OCOS public relations mission is to promote charitable events to help those in need. We are looking for volunteer Optometrists to serve.  Due to the security measures required for the Army Reserve Center, this screening  has a deadline of  August 29th for participant commitments.  We use the Lions District Sight and Hearing Van which is equipped with a slit lamp, auto refractor, tonometer, as well as an ophthalmoscope and retina scope.

There is an expectation that at least 250 Veterans will go through Health and Vision screenings during this event.  The sponsors are the members of the Harbor Mesa Lions Club with the Lions District 4L4 Sight and Hearing Van.

DATES:  Friday and Saturday, September 26th- 27th

LOCATION:  The Tustin Army Reserve Center located at the intersection of Jamboree and Barranca next to The District Shopping Center.

TIMES:  8:00 am until 4:00 pm with Volunteers doing 3 hour shifts of either 8:00 am – 11:00 am,  or 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, or1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Community Service: Santa Ana Health Screening – September 20

Hello OCOS members!

We need volunteer Optometrists to serve for a Santa Ana Health Fair.  The deadline for volunteer commitments is by September 10, 2014.

There is an expectation that at least 500 people will go through Health and Vision screenings during this event.  The sponsors are the Santa Ana Lions Club, Lestonnac Free Clinic, Healthy Smiles for Kids, Sathya Baba Organization of America, the Well Program, Puenta a la Salud, Cal Optima, UCI and other organizations.

EVENT:  The FREE SANTA ANA HEALTH FAIR

DATES:  Saturday, September 20, 2014

LOCATION:  Valley High School, 1801 S. Greenville Street, Santa Ana, CA  92704

TIMES:  8:00 am until 3:00 pm

Community Service: LightHouse of Costa Mesa – Oct. 18

Hello OCOS!

A local Lions club is looking for volunteer Optometrists, volunteer Optometry Students, and volunteer Opticians.  The deadline for volunteer commitments is by October 8, 2014.

There is an expectation that at least 60 homeless people will go through this Health and Vision screening.  The sponsors are the Laguna Niguel Lions Club, Kids Vision for Life OC, and Orange County Health agencies.

EVENT:  The Homeless Health and Vision Screening, Lighthouse Outreach Ministries

DATES:  Saturday, October 18, 2014

LOCATION:  The Lighthouse Church ,1885 Anaheim Ave, Costa Mesa, CA  92627

TIMES:  8:30 am until 3:00 pm
